One of the projects we have worked on this year has been to create a website service for Talk to US. Talk to US is a global video forum, inviting ordinary people around the world to speak directly to the American public. Talk to US is a gallery of 30 second video messages from citizens of other countries, addressing their thoughts to citizens of America. The goals of Talk to US are to better inform Americans about the concerns of citizens around the world, create greater global goodwill, and create an engaged global community. And, just possibly, affect the outcome of the US general election. To view the video gallery for yourself, visit the Talk to US website at: http://www.talktous.org Though Talk to US may have an underlying political agenda, this e-mail is about the technology, rather than the politics, of the website. In creating the website, we played a purely engineering role. The content was created entirely by Talk to US; the technology was created entirely by Neda. We were responsible for every aspect of the technical design and implementation of this site. We are hosting the service in our Data Center, and continue to operate and maintain the service. >From an engineering perspective, the Talk to US website is noteworthy in several respects. First and foremost, TalkToUS.org is a Libre Service. This means that the website is constructed using 100% open-source and free software. This includes all the technical capabilities of the website, such as the ability to maintain the video gallery and support streaming video -- all this is accomplished using free software. There is not one single line of proprietary code anywhere within the website. For more information about Libre Services, visit the Libre Services website at: www.LibreServices.org The working TalkToUS website provides additional confirmation that: -- The Libre Services model is a viable solution for real-world applications. -- Our Data Center is now secure and reliable enough to host large-scale client services, and has the bandwidth and scalability necessary for complex, demanding applications. A key technical requirement of the Talk to US website is the ability to support streaming video, on the scale and scope demanded by this application. We have invested in and built up our Data Center to the point where this is now well within our capabilities. -- As a company, Neda can provide a complete, end-to-end solution to clients requiring web presence. We can act as consultants to design and implement the required web service, and as necessary, we can host and maintain the service. We are a full-service, one-stop shop for web services. As a non-profit organization, the development and maintenance costs were a major consideration for Talk to US. By basing the solution entirely on free software, and by acting as a one-stop shop for all our client's needs, we were able provide a solution that is both complete and affordable. We are interested in developing other solutions based on 100% free software, and in populating our Data Center with additional client services. We have the expertise, and the Data Center is ready. If you have, or know about, problems in search of the kind of solution we can offer, please contact us, or refer us to others. Next Tuesday, November 2 the eyes of the world will be on us. Please exercise your privilege and duty to vote!
